PACES TERPS TO NO. 1 RANKING
Patrick Mullins, a Junior at the University of Maryland and Alumnus with the
Chicago Fire Program, scored the lone goal to beat Virginia last Friday night
raising Maryland University Men’s Soccer team record to 10 wins, 0 losses and 1
tie. The Jesuit High Product scored the lone goal in the Terps victory and
currently ranks as a team leader with six goals and sox assists.
Maryland entered last Friday’s contest ranked Number 1 and leading the nation
with a 3.33 goals per game average. Its defense shut out opponents in three of
their last four victories. Twenty-six minutes into the game Mullins took a pass
at mid-field, darted past a defender and beat the Virginia goal keeper one on
one from thirteen yards out for the game winner. Currently, Mullins is leading
the ACC in points per game at a rate of 1.8 per outing.
Patrick was a member of the 92’ Chicago Fire which won six state titles and
broke bracket in two of their final three years at the USYS Region III
Tournament. Mullins was the ACC Freshman of the year and was Second Team All
Conference last fall. He will lead the Terrapins in their quest for another ACC
title and the National Championship which will be held in Birmingham, Alabama
later this fall.
